Leader In Me
We will start the first week back reviewing the 7 Habits of highly effective people. We will look for them around our school and classroom. We will talk about what they mean.
We will also spend the first week back talking about how we want people to see us. What would be one word we want to represent us. Each student can come up with their own words. I would love for you to have some conversation with your student at home about this! Maybe it’s something your whole family wants to do. We are going to use this word to help us reflect and grow for the rest of the school year. For example, when we are setting goals or solving conflict we will look to see how we can shine through our word.
Math
In math we are jumping right into a harder unit. We will start the unit review money and then quickly heading into subtracting multi digit numbers.
A great way to support your student with money is by taking out a handful of change and having them count it. They are working with Quarters, Nickels, Dimes, and Pennies. Students can practice writing the total with dollar/cent notation.
Writing
We will start a Poetry Unit. We will be learning about seeing things through the eye of a poet (differently), using line breaks to create rhythm, and picking ideas that give us Big Feelings. This is always an exciting unit!
Reading
We are also going into a new reading unit. In this unit we will: work on fluency, stop to notice and understand literary language, track events across longer books, and learn different strategies chapter book readers do when they are starting and stopping the same book.
