A note from NDLC:
To create excitement around reading at home, NDLC will finish out the month of December through January with a #ndlcreads campaign on Social Media. Here’s how you can help:
Snap a photo of your student reading at home
Post it to any social media platform with the hashtag #ndlcreads
Tag us on Facebook using @ndlccharterschool
That’s it!
At the end of each week, we will enter your child’s name in for a book drawing to be held January 28th!
Some compelling research:
A note from Mrs. Duda:
As Winter break approaches, students are exposed to devices and online games for longer periods of time. I wanted to share these resources for you about time online.
Guide to Parental Controls- English
A note from 2nd Grade Teachers:
We will send this sheet home this week to motivate reading throughout the break!
A note from Ms. Kuplack:
I have just gotten work from Square one that they are behind and that there is no guarantee that the art will be in by Christmas. I am so sad to have to give this news to you.
Leader In Me:
This month’s focus has been around Putting First Things First. We talked about the different “hats” we wear: student, friend, soccer player, etc. When we wear a different hat we might have a different goal to do our best. For example: when my role is to be a friend, my goal might be to always be kind. When my role is soccer, my goal might be to always try my hardest.
Additionally, we are talking about organization. When we are organized it’s easier to put first things first. We talked about how there is a place for everything, and everything in its place. I think this is a great area to support at home. Do you have a place for the school bags, coats, homework, etc?
Classroom Wish List:
If you happen to be after holiday shopping and want to donate towards the classroom, we will need pens and black dry erase markers.
Interviews:
We have been studying family, culture, and identity for our social studies unit these past few weeks. We studied families and cultures that are similar to our own families and some that were different! It led to us talking about how to end all of our research and we decided it would be best to learn as much as we can about our own families and identity.
We sat down and wrote out questions to interview our families. We talked about how grandparents might be great people to ask because they have been in our families the longest!
I know it will be very busy over the winter break, so students could definitely do a phone interview or ask them in person over the break if the opportunity arises.
I sent the interview booklets home with students Friday, and then if you could return it after the break (or whenever it is completed), we will then create a project to share what they learned about their family.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for your help with this!
Math:
We will be finishing our math unit on Monday with an end-of-unit assessment. We will start a new unit when we return!
