Math
Unit Assessments will be coming home at the start of the week. As a district, 2nd grade, skips to Unit 7 and will come back to Unit 6. Students will be studying arrays, equal shares, and adding and subtracting length.
We have been starting our math time with lots of work with fluency, if you wanted to support this work at home, here are a few great math sites/apps that you could use for your student:
–E-Spark
–DreamBox (This is a purchased app but phenomenal. It adjusts based on students' level.)
We have found that Prodigy wasn’t all we wanted it to be. It’s much more game-like than mathematical.
Reading
Reminder, your child should be reading each night for 20 minutes. I know this can be tricky as the weather warms up. I am not hovering over the students as much as they pack up their book bags each night. Some tell me they have books at home so they don’t bring books home. If you find your child is without books please talk to them first, then reach out to me if needed.
Writing
Students created a Seesaw video to end our Realistic Fiction Unit last week. I hope you had the chance to watch the video. It was so fun for students to reflect on their writing, from the first week of school, to their most recent pieces. The students have made so much growth. We took the time to talk about how reflection can help us move forward and feel proud of all we have accomplished.
Look for student writing pieces to come home this week from the Realistic Fiction Unit. We are now headed back to opinion writing. We will be writing and recommending our favorite books. It is perfect timing for this as our school is doing a March Madness on books selected from each classroom. Ask your student about the competing books.
Leader In Me
This week we started talking about synergizing with the focus on differences. We spent time talking about our friends' strengths, our strengths, and what makes us different.
Conferences
Conferences are only a few short weeks away. You should have received a signup from the office. The district has decided that all schools will have virtual conferences once again.
This week we will send home a conference form for you to fill out, to help guide our conversation the night of conferences.
