Leader in Me:
This month our focus is on Think Win-Win. Last week our class was learning how to say, “No Deal!” to bullying. This week we will talk about using courage and consideration when feeling pressured to do things you know aren’t right. You could ask your child, “How can you use courage and consideration when you are feeling pressured?”
An example of having courage is when a friend always wants to be first when working together. Oftentimes, the partner will say okay. We will teach students to have the courage to use their voice, in a considerate way, to let their partner know they would like to try to be first once.
Math:
In math we have been learning that there are a lot of ways to solve subtraction problems! With our math homework this week I will send home the chart we have been creating that has different ways to solve problems. This week we are going to work on finding a strategy that we understand and works for us! Let me know how the math homework goes at home or if you have any questions!
Reading and writing:
Our reading and writing unit tie together beautifully right now! We have been on the lookout for literary language in our books that we are reading, specifically comparisons, similes, cool things that authors do that make us stop and think! In writing we have been writing poems. We have been learning ways to make our poems strong and stronger. One way is by trying out some literary language in our poems; comparisons, similes, personification, and alliteration. A lot of fun new things to try!
