Math--In math we started Unit 3. In this unit we learn about shapes and measurement. We talk about quadrilateral shapes, pentagons, hexagonal shapes, and triangles. When measuring we will be using centimeters and inches. Students will measure shapes and line segments. They will also construct shapes and line segments while measuring. This is a short and fun unit.
Writing--In writing we started a short unit on opinion writing. We took the first grade charts, listing all the strategies they learned last year, to review the work opinion writers do. Students are working to write reviews on their collections and many other topics! Students are working hard to give lots of reasons to support their opinion, support it in comparison to other things and quote what others say about their topic! Students are having lots of fun.
Reading--We started our Growing Word Solving Muscles Unit. Our goal for this unit is that students work to create a mental image in their mind as they read, along with using many word solving strategies to solve tricky words. We want students to be quick and flexible to solve words.
Leader In Me--This month’s focus is Put First Things First! This week we talked about prioritizing. We are working to identify the most important things (big rocks) such as: homework, family time, preparing for school, doing chores. Then having time for the less important things (little rocks) such as: video games, toys, tv, etc.
We also kicked the month off with an all school virtual assembly to celebrate the new learning ahead: Putting First Things First!
Researcher’s Workshop--We ended our Plant Unit this week by preparing to take all our learning public. Students made posters, models, PowerPoint, and games! Click the link to view the PowerPoint or see photos below!
